From show judge Stephanie Zeiler: At first glance one might not realize this is a gourd. The artist has transformed it into something new. Is it a possible vessel or is it a sculptural piece meant to just gaze upon? Several techniques were used to create a beautiful contrast between the naturalness of the gourd and the colorful vibrant glass pieces. The circular roundness of the gourd and the engraved patterns is interrupted by the pierced negative space which helps strengthen the organicness of the medium and creates interest in the form, pulling the viewer through the piece. As you get closer, the blues from inside the piece are revealed almost like water spilling out from within. The repetition of the organic glass shapes finish off the rest of the piece. The play of positive and negative space Is wonderful. The organicness of those details juxtaposed against the geometric patterning creates an interesting play off the elements. The form has been deconstructed and rebuilt to offer something new to the world.
